Author -- James Butler Mystery Series

About Me

I am a Denver, Colorado, attorney with more than 30 years of experience. In practice, I have tried cases to courts and juries, and have written hundreds of briefs, motions, and memoranda, to state and federal courts, including federal courts of appeal and the United States Supreme Court. I also have extensive experience in energy law, transactions, and corporate formation and financing.

In 1990, I first started working on cases related to the 1985 kidnapping and murder of DEA Special Agent Enrique “Kiki” Camarena and have continued to investigate that case in the years. My investigations have taken him to foreign countries and included interviews with witnesses both notorious and infamous. This work was the background for my first James Butler mystery Someone Had to Die. My continued investigations into the world of Mexican cartels, and continuing research into the Camarena murder, form the foundation for my sequel novel, Someone Had to Lie.

When not writing, I am a weekend warrior on the tennis court, a science nerd, and a lover of documentaries and the cinema.

Most importantly, I am the proud father of an amazing daughter.
